Early Medical Career
Dr Hariram qualified as a medical doctor 20 years ago, at the currently named Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine. During her training she has received many awards and Dean’s commendations. She has worked in all major medical disciplines at various hospitals, including rural institutions.
During her early medical career, she realised that the skin is an important visible organ being a window to diseases that lie hidden within the body. This led her to pursue a specialist career in dermatology.
She spent 3 years in northern KZN, founding and heading a dermatology clinic, where she commenced a Master’s degree in dermatology. Thereafter, she completed a four-year Fellowship in Dermatology. Again, she received many accolades during this intense period of study and research. These include: Best Registrar Case Study at the S.A National Dermatology Congress, wherein she described a novel skin manifestation due to HIV-related drugs.
She was also awarded the Best Registrar in Dermatological Surgery in the country, in her final year.
Further, she is the recipient of a prestigious award for her published work on psoriasis.
Dr Hariram was also a Consultant Specialist Dermatologist at the King Edward and Albert Luthuli Hospitals. During this period, she has received the Best Consultant award, twice. She is a previous lecturer and examiner at the UKZN Medical School. During this time, she has worked with dermatologists from around the world.
Dr Hariram is actively involved in seeking newer treatment modalities for skin conditions. She is also passionate about skin cancer awareness and treatment, paediatric dermatology, pigmentation/acne dermatologic surgery, as well as encompassing dermatology as a key component of over-all patient’s health and well -being.
Further, she is a certified aesthetics practitioner, experienced in aesthetic medicine which include Botox and dermal fillers.
After years of recommending other brands of skincare ranges, Dr Hariram realised the need to develop a skincare range that is backed by clinical studies and evidence-based medicine.
She then pursued this passion which culminated in the launch of pH Derm, an innovative skin care range based on scientific expertise and world-class ingredients.
She has spent five years in the research of pH Derm, sourcing international ingredients and joining forces with award-winning laboratories, to develop pH Derm.
As the Founder of pH Derm, Dr Hariram, a medical doctor, a Specialist Dermatologist, a Dermatologic Surgeon, a researcher and a scientist, will continue to strive to pursue all these roles to the best of her ability in her medical career.
Anika is the ever-efficient Practice Manager and has been with the practice since its inception. Her previous work experience at two other dermatology practices, coupled with her extensive knowledge of skincare ranges and products, will ensure your experience at the practice is, simply put, phenomenal!
Keshni has a multifaceted role in the practice, wherein she handles administrative tasks and is the clinical assistant during surgical procedures and the therapist. She is trained and certified by Neostrata in chemical peels and is very skilled in her knowledge of skincare products.
