We are often asked, what does a Dermatologist treat?

A Dermatologist is firstly, a medical doctor/ general practitioner who has completed 6 years of medical training. Thereafter, a few years of working as a doctor/ general practitioner in hospitals is required. Only after this work period, can one study for another 4-6 years to become a dermatologist.
  • A dermatologist treats conditions of the skin which is the largest organ in the body. The skin is a very visible organ and provides a window to conditions that lie internally eg, cancer that has spread, auto-immune diseases like lupus, genetic diseases, medical conditions that affects the skin, like diabetes, organ damage and medications that may affect the patient.
  • A dermatologist also treats conditions of the external genitalia, mouth and nail disorders. These areas also are an assessment of internal medical conditions as well.
  • A dermatologist treats conditions of the hair and nails. These also are assessments of internal medical conditions eg. vitamin deficiencies, cancers etc.

pH Derm Hat Collection

Where did it all start…
Skin cancer is the No.1 cancer in South Africa.
There is a lack of good protection against skin cancer. The other damaging effects of the sun include pigmentation, premature wrinkling and ageing.

Sunblocks say ” SPF 50″, but it does not say how much must be applied to get an SPF of 50. If a sunblock is not adequately applied, or re-applied, then a person will not get the SPF on the bottle. An added physical protection is the best if you know you will spend a long time in the sun.

Dr Hariram does skin cancer assessments every day, and surgically removes cancers frequently in a week.

People complain, that UV hats are too expensive, uncomfortable in heat, or do not look appealing.

She launched pH Derm Hat range to encourage people to protect themselves.
pH Derm hat collection are affordable, made with comfortable and breathable fabrics and some have decorative details eg, pearls and jewelled studs, silk threads and other details.
