pH Derm Products

Not just recommended by a Dermatologist, but made by a Dermatologist!

After 5 long years of hard work, research, and product testing, pH Derm Skincare Range was launched by Dr Preetha Hariram.

These products are to maintain the natural balance, equilibrium and pH and therefore aptly named pH Derm, which are also her initials.

All pH Derm products are based on ingredients based on clinical research. All pH Derm products are fragrance free. pH Derm products were not tested on animals.
Most importantly, pH Derm Skincare Range are made in laboratories. Dr Hariram cautions against buying brands online or sold in some pharmacies/retail stores, without researching them.
Consumers must find out who makes the product and what are their qualifications. There are products sold online and in some stores that are made by non-medical persons. Some products are mixed and made in houses/farms/warehouses. Persons making these products do not know the scientific formulae and ratios, stability and efficacy.

Dermatologists in South Africa, often see patients with long term skin damage from use of these products. If, a product claims to be “dermatologist recommend”, as a consumer, you have a right to find out who is the dermatologist and contact their office to verify.

Anyone can misinform the public by claiming on their website or print on their labels, that it is dermatologist recommended/approved.

Many of these products have harmful lightening ingredients like steroids. Steroids are used for medical conditions for a short while, but the skin gets lighter as a side effect. Some brands therefore use the lightening effect of steroids in their products. The marks lighten but return when stopped. This creates a vicious, cycle, i.e. When marks return, it encourages the consumer to continue to buy the products, all the while causing long term damage to the skin.

Dermatologists see the effects of damaged skin from products made by non-medical persons, that are often irreversible. It is unfortunate that patients are exposed to these products online and in stores.

Further, in South Africa, there are places that claim their procedures or intravenous drips are being done by medical professionals. These are unlicensed places and untrained persons. It is unfortunate that they misinform consumers through the words they choose as their business names or social media platforms, that they are medical professionals.

The Dermatology Society of South Africa and the South African Association for Dermatology Surgery, of which Dr Hariram is a member of, are identifying and reporting these places.
